Tomorrow evening, Sextant Coffee Roasters is hosting its first annual Latte Art Throwdown, sponsored by Califia, makers of fine almond milks

Latte art throwdowns originated as a way for baristas to show off their milk-steaming skills, basically. If a barista can pour latte art, it means that the milk is steamed just right to make a delicious latte. If the milk texture is too thin, you can't make latte art. Too thick, your latte art lacks definition, or looks like an edible Rorschach test.

But mostly, we just view the throwdown as a way to have a great party. There will be music, beverages, tunes, good folks, and of course, many almond milk lattes to drink, and coffee-related prizes, all for free! It's $5 to compete in the throwdown and the winner gets to keep contest entry fees. Runner-ups get coffee gear.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., throwdown starts at 7 p.m., and the party starts at 9 p.m. everyone and their dog is welcome. See you there!
